The US economy recorded a significant increase in jobs in October 2026, showing surprising resilience of the labor market. According to data released on Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the non-agricultural sector added 165.000 jobs, seasonally adjusted, at a much faster pace than initially anticipated. [1][2]

Analysts' expectations, averaged from Dow Jones estimates, indicated moderate growth of 59.000 jobs, making the actual figure almost three times higher than the consensus. Parallel with the hiring surge, the unemployment rate slightly decreased to 4,1%, sitting below predictions which expected it at 4,2%. These results provide a sense of security for the US economy in the context of the political transition after the midterm elections, where Democrats achieved a sweep, despite concerns regarding the cost of living and inflation. [1][2]

Furthermore, preliminary data for previous months has been substantially revised upwards. September, which was initially reported with 29.000 new jobs, was corrected to 60.000, following a positive revision of 31.000. Similarly, August adjusted its figure up to 186.000 jobs, an increase of 53.000 over the initial estimate. These adjustments underscore the positive dynamics of the US economy in the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth. [1][2]

Regarding incomes, average hourly earnings increased by 0,4% compared to the previous month, surpassing the expectation of 0,3%. Over the year, this indicator stands at 3,1%, compared to the expected 2,9% suggesting that wage pressures continue to persist. These partially contradictory data - a strong labor market, but with persistent inflation and major household concerns about the cost of living - reflect the current complexity of the economy, affected by demographic changes, rapid adoption of artificial intelligence, and geopolitical situations.
